Coates and Coates began in April of 2003 and is managed by two principals, Carolin and Ron Coates.
Ron was the President and an original founder of BCN Communications and served the company for
30 years. Carolin was a Vice President and served the company for 15 years. They were an active
part of developing great design work at the company and have a strong working process and partnership.

Ron graduated from the University of Cincinnati before beginning his career with Unimark International,
a global company specializing in corporate identity and branding. Ron worked in both the Chicago and
Milan offices where he met Harri Boller and Francois Robert. In 1976 they formed their own design firm,
Boller Coates Robert, which grew and evolved over the years to BCN Communications.

Carolin graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. Her annual report experience began with
Herman Miller in 1985 before joining Hawthorne Wolfe where she developed a strong editorial background.
She joined BCN Communications as a designer in 1988 where she soon began managing her own accounts and
for the last 10 years was a Vice President at the company.
